The City of Olivette Fire Department

 

The City of Olivette Fire Department is located West of the City of St. Louis in St. Louis County, Missouri. It covers about 3.5 square miles with a population of 7,573.

 

The Department is rated “4” by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), among ratings ranging from 1 through 10 with 1 as the highest. This rating is based on several factors of your fire department, including the number of full time fire-fighters and their training, response time, fire fighting equipment and fire prevention. The fire-fighting vehicles and equipment owned by the city includes a 1993 Pierce Dash Pumper, 1996 Ford 350 Rescue 4x4,, 1975 Seagrave Pumper, two staff vehicles 1998 Ford Crown Victor, 1999 Jeep Cherokee.

 

The Fire Department is a career department with a staff of twenty-two. We have three Shifts, each shift has seven personnel and is made-up of (1) District Chief, (1) Captain, (1) Firefighter, (4) Paramedic/Firefighters. Each shift works a Twenty-four hour rotation, at the end of a five day rotation they get four days off.  Each firefighter works an average of 56 hours per week.  The Fire Chief works eight hours a day, five days a week and on call seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.

 

The department runs about 480 Fire & Mutual Aid calls, and about 602 EMS calls per year out of one fire station. The Rescue squad is used for EMS and is advance life support (ALS) equipped, we do not transport patients we use a private Ambulance for transport to the hospital, the department modeled this from the TV show years ago called “Squad 51” in LA.
