City of Olivette Police Department
Operation We Care
The Olivette Police Department has developed a program to assist senior citizens and people with disabilities or health problems called We Care.
Every morning the Police Department uses a computer equipped with a software program to automatically make telephone calls to check on the welfare of each participant. Upon recieving the morning phone call, the recipient simply listens to the message and then hangs up, indicating to the Police all is well.
If the daily phone call is not answered, or the phone line remains busy after two calls, an Olivette Police Officer will be dispatched immediately to the home to determine if there are any problems.
The computer records information each time a call is made and the number dialed. This will ensure that every participant is contacted each day at the pre-arranged time. The program is not designed to replace human contact, merely supplement it.
